Your 2010 Signage Review - Evaluate Your Sign!


2010 is just around the corner... an ideal time to review what your current signage is really saying about you and your business!  Of course, you don't have to wait for a special time to reconsider your message and re-write it.

 As a business owner, your signage is one of your most compelling messages to your customers.  Even if your sign isn't critical to how to find your customers, your current sign is saying something to all of your clients -- previous, new and future!

 Walk outside and take a fresh look at your business, considering what a new visitor might see.  Take a photo of your signage and facade and print it out.  Give yourself an honest critique of what you see there.

Let's face it -- if you are even reading this, then you are probably eager to make a change or really have something to be concerned about!

Here's a great checklist of things you should consider when you are reviewing your current signage and exterior office image:

 --  Is your sign looking clean, fresh and in good condition?  If your sign is stained, cracked, faded and generally showing signs of wear, what does that say to your customers?  A good looking, well-maintained signs says you are competent, successful and ready to do business.

 -- What about the landscaping or sidewalk?  Is there grass or weeds growing?  Any debris or garbage?  Paying attention to details on your business facade tells your customers you'll be paying attention to THEIR needs in detail, with no shortcuts.

 -- Does your sign message really work?  Does your business name or sign message tell customer quickly and easily they are in the right place and that you carry the product they need?  A business needs to be able to change its image, brand or identity in order to stay relevant in the marketplace. 

 -- Maybe your logo needs a refresh?  Don't get to "attached" to your logo.  Even brands as major and Coke and Toyota have revised their logo to help better express their brand and stay relevant.  Logos are very powerful -- if you have a good one, great.  If your logo is too complex, not readily understood, or not at all expressive of your brand, consider a new logo or new sign.

 -- Business not good?  The Small Business Administration published a study that even replacing a sign with a fresh one -- no change in size, color or message - makes an impact on the amount of walk-in business -- at a minimum, 5% increase!
