Neon Signs - Vintage Look Plus Creative Design
Neon came into common use during the early 1900's. It was state-of-the-art at the time, and became an expressive, creative way for businesses to share their message. Exposed tubing was the choice of the day, giving the designers and craftsman flexibility in expression, color and look. Nowadays using exposed neon tubing gives an instant credibility -- it gives a sense of permanence and longevity even to a brand new business. It’s a throwback and classic look that newer technology can’t match. Neon is always done by hand – true craftsmanship is critical – and quality matters. Badly made neon will short out, not light up properly or even fail to work at all. There are high voltages involved in lighting neon, so you want to look for high quality in fabrication as well as maintenance. It’s a common issue with shoddy neon to have fires or burns on a sign or building. Once you’ve decided to invest in quality and evocative signage with neon, you can really have some fun with your expression and display. You can use neon to simply highlight a sign – maybe an outline around the perimeter of the sing – or you can make neon the feature, creating images, words and logos. Parts of the fixture can light up and flash while others stay lit. You can create a ‘racing’ effect with timing the flashing just so. There are dozens of colors available, the result of the combination of gas inside the tube, as well as the type of tube used. |
