It's pretty obvious why magnetics for vehicles are so popular -- they give a business major flexibility, great visibility, with a low level of investment.

 

There are many reasons to buy them -- but are there things someone should know BEFORE they buy some magnets?  YES -- some of these tips are more obvious than others, but scan this list BEFORE you even call a local sign company.

 

1.  Know that magnets are not going to work on vehicles that are fiberglass.  Seems silly, but more than once we've had clients order and pick up their magnets only to realize too late their vehicle was plastic and the magnets were useless to them!

2.  Going big isn't best -- when magnetic sheeting gets really big, it becomes to heavy to hold itself on, and will fly off during your night highway-speed drive.  Keep the size no more than maybe 2' x 3' at the very most.

3.  You need to take care of them!  They will appear pretty durable, but keeping them flat and clean is important!  When they aren't in use, store them on a metal surface, like a file cabinet, to keep them flat and clean.

4.  Design them well!!  Don't try to get too much info on there -- you only have a few seconds of viewing them, so include just a busines name, phone number and maybe a website.  Beyond that and you start to dilute the message.  You can also have a shaped magnet -- not just a rectangle -- but be careful of the final outline -- you don't want any sharp corners to get lifted in the wind while driving an lose your magnets!

5.  Be cautious!  Follwo the instrucions you are given with your magnets.  Clean the car doors completely, wipe down the backs of the magnets, and remove them whenever you wash the car so you don't cause any long-term damage.
